At The FSI’s Workshops 2011, we had the opportunity to meet a couple of representatives of a great charity, CoppaFeel! They told us about their organisation, how it was founded and its important mission. The story behind how CoppaFeel! is so moving that we just had to share it here.
In 2009, a young woman named Kristin Hallenga was misdiagnosed twice for breast cancer. In fact, she was lucky to be diagnosed at all; it was only through her own mother’s direct demands that Kris was finally referred to a specialist. Due to the delay in diagnosis the cancer had already spread to Kris’s spine so after a mastectomy, chemotherapy and radiation to rid her body of the breast cancer, she still lives every day with the tumors which call her spine home.
Whist fighting an incredibly brave battle of her own body, Kris has started a campaign to raise awareness about breast cancer in young people. With much support from family and friends, Kris has worked tirelessly to educate young people about the importance of checking their boobs regularly and knowing the signs and symptoms of breast cancer. With a cheeky approach for a very important message, CoppaFeel! has been encouraging young people to check their own boobs on a regular basis to save others from suffering from a similar fate.
