Untold Stories

Every year, the Holocaust Memorial Day Trust (HMDT) considers a different theme as it relates to Holocaust Memorial Day, which is an international day of commemoration observed yearly on 27 January. HMDT’s theme for 2011 is Untold Stories. In exploring its own theme, HMDT have researched, discovered and shared a host of personal stories previously not shared with the wider public.

Over the past few months, we have been moved by the stories we’ve been listening to on the HMDT’s podcasts. Of particular note was Leisel Carter’s personal story. As we learned on the HMDT website, Leisel left Germany at the age of four in 1939, before war broke out. She travelled through Norway to escape to safety in England, making part of the journey by herself.
