When the director of the new charity The Girls Home (Hogar de niñas Madre Albertina) mentioned their need for a new website, we offered to build it for free. We were eager to help the children that call Hogar de niñas Madre Albertina home.
Hogar de niñas Madre Albertina is a home for girls who have been mistreated, abused, raped, or whose carers struggle to adequately provide for them. The home is run by an order of nuns called Madre Albertina. They are brought to the home by the social services or the nuns themselves.
The new website –- www.thegirlshome.com — has been launched in time for a London-based fundraising event on May 30th. There will be a Golden Prize Draw where tickets are only £5 with some amazing prizes to be won! To enter simply text BLIS55£5 to 70070 then email info@niceimages.net to receive your raffle ticket numbers.
We look forward to the charity event next week and seeing the charity grow and continue to make a difference in the orphans’ lives.

At lbdesign, we’re lucky to work with some wonderfully creative, thoughtful and insightful people. This was made abundantly clear to us recently when we were surprised with “thank you” gifts from Vijit Singh, the founder and director of I Wish, the innovation consultancy with soul. Vijit was grateful for our work in creating his new website.
What struck us about Vijit’s gifts was that not only were they very generous but also, they were so inspirational. Vijit knows that Liam is fond of single malt Scotch. Using that knowledge, Vijit gave Liam a bottle of Amrut’s Indian Single Malt Whisky.
Let’s think about that: Focusing on Liam’s personal preferences, Vijit challenged Liam in a friendly way to expand his thinking and tastes, all the while highlighting that I Wish has extensive knowledge and experience in the emerging market that is India.
Smart, innovative and nurturing.
As part of our commitment to sharing our own skills and abilities with those in need, we are pleased to have the opportunity to work with a chapter of a charity called Joseph’s People. As a registered non-profit, Joseph’s People is a networking and support group for the unemployed and underemployed.
At lbdesign, we worked with the St. Elizabeth Chapter, in Upper Uwchlan, PA to create a free website at WordPress.com. The new website — workconnected.wordpress.com — offers job opportunities, networking resources and more. Joseph’s People is an open group and welcomes people from all walks of life and faith (including those without faith.) We continue to help Joseph’s People at St. Elizabeth expand the content and exposure of the site.
This Easter London has been littered with eggs — not the chicken-laying sort nor the chocolate kind either. There are over 200 decorated eggs, standing two-and-a-half feet tall, scattered all around London.
Why?
Well, there is a competition called ‘The Big Egg Hunt’ for people to seek out all the eggs, with the aim of raising at least one million pounds for both Action for Children and Elephant Family.
At the end of the competition these eggs will be auctioned off – visit The Faberge Big Egg Hunt for more details about the auction.
Ngaire Ackerley has shared some of her photographs from the eggs she has already discovered. The beautiful designs below are the work of (in order) Natasha Mann, Martin Aveling, George Butler, Natalie Guy and Mark Shand.

Yet again The FSI have let their true colours shine. Having just delivered a seminar at The FSI’s Workshop, Liam Dempsey was presented with an elegant glass vase filled with beautifully coloured sand. The thank you gift was another example of The FSI’s amazing ability to deliver thoughtful gifts on a very cost effective non-profit budget.
In case you missed it, we have previously highlighted The FSI’s thank you gifts on our Tumblr blog »

Street Art is very popular these days thanks to the likes of Banksy and Morley, but there are now so many talented artists creating amazing and unique work who aren’t receiving recognition for it. So here is our little tribute to the street artists of East London.
Photographs were taken by our London-based designer, Ngaire Ackerley during the Alternative London Tour – a unique tour of the vibrant East End of London, that comes recommended!

As we prepare to attend and present at the upcoming FSI Workshop, we wanted to share some images of the very creative and personalised thank-you gift that Liam Dempsey received from The FSI when he previously spoke at their day-long training workshop in London.
The small notebook was filled with hand-written notes from Pauline Broomhead, the CEO of The FSI, and her colleagues. It included interesting information about the day and the charities which The FSI assists. It’s a wonderful keepsake and one that Liam proudly displays on a shelf in his Philadelphia office.

Our London-based designer, Ngaire Ackerley recently traveled to East Africa on holiday. During her travels, she was lucky enough to visit mountain gorillas in Rwanda and see the amazing work that the people at Volcanoes National Park are doing to help preserve their existence.
Many of us will have read the book or seen the movie ‘Gorillas in the Mist’ and can recount the work of Dian Fossey and her involvement with the Karisoke Research Center. This work is still being carried on today.
Set up by Dian Fossey in 1978, Gorilla Fund is a charity dedicated to the conservation and protection of gorillas and their habitats in Rwanda. Less than 800 gorillas are left in the entire world. These gentle giants are amazing up-close and it would be such a shame to see them disappear from existence.
Below are some of Ngaire’s photographs from her visit with the Amahoro Gorilla group.

On 27 January 1945, the death camp at Auschwitz-Birkenau was liberated. It is on the anniversary of that date that we commemorate all genocides of our recent human history.
From our London office, Ngaire will be attending the Holocaust Memorial Day Commemoration in London on Thursday, 26 January. If you’re in the UK and would like to attend a commemoration event, you can find one nearest you on the Holocaust Memorial Day Trust website.
As the theme for Holocaust Memorial Day 2012 is Speak Up, Speak Out, we are encouraged to consider what is happening around us and to speak out against hatred and discrimination. For more information, please visit http://www.speakupnow.org.uk.
Last week, a lovely coupon flyer arrived at Liam Dempsey’s house in greater Philadelphia. Liam was really surprised and pleased to see that Target, the massive superstore chain, had produced a very cute and engaging design with some absolutely fantastic content. The short poems, haikus, and clean, simple graphics worked beautifully together. We’ve shared a few images of what we think are the better poems.
